Nurse
Practitioners and Advocates Honored during National AANP Conference
-- Nurse practitioners (NPs) and nurse
practitioner advocates, recipients of the prestigious State Awards for Excellence, will be
honored on Wednesday, June 23 during the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners (AANP) 25th National Conference at the Phoenix
Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona June 23-27, 2010.
The State
Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence, founded in 1991, recognizes an NP in a
state who demonstrates excellence in practice, research, NP education, or
community affairs.
Theresa
Boley, RN, MSN, APN/FNP, CCRP, recipient of the state award for Illinois
obtained her BS and MS in nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and
has been a nurse practitioner since 1990. Theresa was at the University of
Missouri-Columbia prior to joining Southern Illinois University School of
Medicine in 1993. She has been involved in cardiac, lung cancer and emphysema
research. Her clinical practice includes emphysema patients. She was initially
a co-investigator looking at lung volume reduction surgery as a possible
treatment option. Her role includes evaluating patients with emphysema, caring
for the patients during their hospital stay, and continuing to follow them long
term. She has presented regionally and nationally and has over 200 nursing and
medical publications. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Clinical
Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield,
Illinois conducting clinical practice, research, and teaching.
