Your ISAPN Membership Benefits in a Nutshell
1. LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY and POLITICAL INFLUENCE. When the State Legislature is in session, and even when it's not, ISAPN's lobbyists are working on your behalf with legislators, the Governor's office, and with state regulatory agency leaders and staff to further the impact of advanced practice nursing. The ISAPN lobby team is led by a nurse with real clinical nursing experience. ISAPN empowers members to personally lobby legislators on behalf of initiatives impacting the profession and their patients.
2. COMMUNICATIONS. As an ISAPN member, you will always be kept informed by ISAPN. We provide:
- LEGISLATIVE CLIENT ALERTS – Highlights of legislative activity impacting advanced practice nurses are emailed to ISAPN members each week while the Illinois General Assembly is in session.
- GRASSROOTS LEGISLATIVE ALERTS - whenever there is a need for members to become proactive about a legislative issue, these Alerts are emailed to members.
- ISAPN MEMBERSHIP UPDATES - Up to the minute information emphasizing statewide issues and information of specific interest to CRNAs, CNSs, CNMs and CNPs is emailed to members once per month.
- SPECIAL EMAIL ALERTS - Whenever important information must be relayed to members quickly, email alerts are sent. Additionally, the ISAPN web site (www.isapn.org) is accessible 24/7. The ISAPN web site is a place to seek answers to your questions about reimbursement, billing and coding, writing prescriptions, collaborative agreements and more. Online job postings are accessible to ISAPN members before they appear in the public information section of the website, giving you a head start on the competition. General information about APN practice is available for those wanting to learn more about advanced practice nursing. NOTE: Members seeking positions can advertise on the ISAPN web site at no cost. Send an email with your "Job Wanted” listing to karvidson@consulting4biz.com.
3. PUBLIC AWARENESS. ISAPN seeks to make others aware of the importance of APNs in the health care delivery system. We produce a trifold brochure that you can purchase for use in your office or for other outreach opportunities. Additionally, ISAPN license plate holders are available for purchase at regional meetings and at the ISAPN Symposium.
4. NETWORKING. ISAPN can participate in regional meetings in any area. Each region hosts dinners featuring educational programs, ISAPN business, and opportunities to network with other APNs. Most of these dinner meetings are free.
5. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. ISAPN members can attend regional meetings and statewide educational sessions on clinical topics of interest throughout the year. Many of these opportunities also offer CEs. At the Annual APN Midwest Conference, APNs and APN students earn CEs, learn about new treatment options, network, gather and share information about the latest products and technologies, and have fun. Members receive discounted registration fees for the conference.
6. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. ISAPN members may participate in one or more of ISAPN’s committees including Bylaws, Finance, Government Relations/Political Action, Membership and Marketing, Policies and Procedures, Program, and Reimbursement (some committees are limited in size). On all committees, ISAPN seeks representation from each specialty.
7. PRACTICE ISSUES RESPONSE TEAM (PIRT). Members are invited to send questions about APN issues, such as prescribing, protocols, practice and licensure to ISAPN member experts who comprise PIRT. These APNs respond directly to the member, and post the most commonly asked questions on the ISAPN web site.
8. PEER PUBLICATION REVIEW COMMITTEE. ISAPN’s Peer Publication Review Committee is available to review member manuscripts and provide APN feedback prior to publication.
9. MENTORS. New grads and APNs new to Illinois are invited to request assistance from an ISAPN mentor. Mentors answer questions or assist the mentee to find necessary resources as they begin their professional APN career in Illinois.
10. POLITICAL ACTION. ISAPN members are provided opportunities to support political candidates who have demonstrated their commitment to advanced practice nursing through the ISAPN PAC.
11. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. ISAPN members are encouraged to rise to leadership positions within the organization. Regional and statewide leadership opportunities are available.
